Fluorescent lamp at Temelin nuke catches fire, does no harm

News from near where we live...

emelin, June 25 (CTK) - A fluorescent lamp in a corridor at the first unit of the Czech nuclear power plant at Temelin caught fire in the early hours of Sunday but the fire was extinguished by a member of the staff with a fire extinguisher causing no harm, Temelin spokesman Marek Svitak told CTK Monday.

The fire did not affect either the unit's operation or nuclear safety, Svitak added.

The staff noticed the fire alarm signal at 02:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Firefighters checked the place after the fire had been extinguished.

The plant's management informed the State Authority for Nuclear safety about the fire. "The incident has preliminarily been estimated as being below the INES scale. It was an unimportant event, but the plant is obliged to provide information about it in line with the Melk agreement," Svitak said.

The Czech-Austrian Melk agreement on the safety of the Temelin nuclear power plant was signed by the then Czech and Austrian PMs in Melk, Lower Austria, in 2000.

The INES scale has 8 degrees. An incident given the 0 degree has no significance for safety.

You are both so brave.

Praying for a good pregnancy time and birth.

Over here, K and I are busy with work. I have essays to do as am studying and am being a bridesmaid this summer so have a hen party in Paris this weekend!

Keep All Saints in your prayers, we had our gift day last Sunday. The young people's hearts are being opened. We have a mini mission on the North Peckham Estate with some guys coming over from the USA. I am going on the Soul Survivor camp with the young people which I'm looking forward too.

Much love Victoria
