Almut is pregnant

Well the news is out and probably most of you have heard. Almut is pregnant. We thought early on that we were going to have a baby, but we first had to check with a Czech doctor.

Almut would have liked to have found a woman gynecologist, but they are rare in this country. Even rarer are English or German speaking ones. (This was not a good opportunity for us to be practicing our Czech!) We phoned one woman doctor in Česke Budějovice, but there wasn't anyone in the office that spoke English or German. In fact the receptionist just hung up on us. The next doctor we phoned speaks very good German and passable English, so Almut decided to see him. Almut was a bit concerned to see him by herself, but he always has a female assistant in the office with him. He seems very good, but speaks very quietly.

This week I went with her and saw the ultrasound of the baby. Very exciting!
