Adventures in Prague
Last couple of days I have been in Prague. On Thursday the family I am staying with took me around several places of note:
* Went to Bethelem Chapel where Jan Hus was the preacher before being burnt at the stake in Constance for preaching about the need for a reformation of the Catholic Church.
* The Jewish quarter where Jews lived until the second world war and
* The place where students demonstrated in 1989 on the 16th of July 1989 leading to the end of communist rule in the Czech Republic.
Lida and Petr (parents of the family) told me that they were not at this demonstration but ones in the following days.
Prague is so utterly beautiful. The hills, the river Vltava and the historic buildings really make the place quite compelling.
The Friday I went to a conference on mission in Europe. One speaker said that Africa is no longer the dark continent, that title belongs to Europe. A explanation perhaps is required. The term dark continent does not refer to the colour of the skin of the inhabitants but to the lack of believing Christians in comparison to the other continents. Also met up with Nathan Smith from the de Bron conference and George Verwer.
I am now back in Besednice. The ground is covered with snow. Bude byle Vanoce? Will it be a White Christmas? Nevim. I don´t know. Ale je byla krajina teď. But the landscape is white now.
