České Budějovice Hockey
WARNING - This blog contains sporting terms and maybe considered boring, especially by women...
On Sunday afternoon I went to watch the local ice hockey team České Budějovice with Petr his father and Honza the second son (from the family I lived with last year). The team is in the top division, last year having won promotion from the 2nd division. On Sunday the team had to beat HC Vsetín to get into the play offs.
Ice hockey is a game of three thirds. First third České Budějovice scored the first goal and looked really good. Second third they looked listless and HC Vsetín scored two goals against them. It looked like České Budějovice were going to lose. The third third České Budějovice picked up the pace and scored 3 really good goals.
Really enjoyed going there. Slightly unnerved by flying pucks (a small thick flat disk - the ice-hockey equivelent of a ball). Two came quite close. If supporters catch them, they get to keep them. The supporters have a good band of trumpets and drums (Sheffield Wednesday standards I think). They had a young figure skater do a exhibition after the first third (much better than Crystal Palace half time entertainment) and a very silly game after the second third (far worse than the silly game that they have at Crystal Palace).
