The demise of a wedding present
On Sunday we had Jan and Suzanna from our church for lunch. Almut was cooking a lovely chicken casserole. She was cooking it in a ceramic casserole dish in the oven. She mentioned to James that there was a mark on the side of the dish. He thought it looked like sauce bubbling over the edge. It wasn't. As Almut took the dish out of the oven, it fell apart in her hands and then broke into smaller pieces on the floor. This left sauce and chicken splattered across the floor. Almut was also lightly burnt on the arm.
We were fortunate that we had invited Jan and Suzanna. Once we washed the dropped chicken and had quickly cooked a new sauce, they were quite happy to eat it. But somewhat of an embarrasing thing to happen when you invite guests.
Oh yes, and the casserole dish was a wedding present; the first present we have broken...
