Gypsies and skinheads

Gypsies are not popular in the Czech Republic (for reasons that I will not go into). Last night Martin (my flatmate) and I went for a walk to the central square in České Budějovice. We saw a young men run across the road and start beating up a Romany Gypsy. We considered whether we should just walk on by, but decided (with a quick prayer of "Help Jesus!") to go and help the man being beaten up. I yelled in Czech for them to stop (which they did) and then Martin talked to them for about 5 minutes. The gypsy took a while to get up, but then disappeared quite quickly.
