Mistakes in Czech

Last Friday we had the English Bible Study. Not many people came because the Czech Republic were playing Sweden in ice hockey at the Winter Olympics. (The Czech Republic lost 3-7 to Sweden, but got a Bronze medal after beating Russia).

The actual bible study went well, but I managed to have another learning experience (euphamisim for embarrasing mistake). One of the women that attends works for the Czech Customs and is currently studying in Prague. Her office in České Budějovice called her to tell her that her new uniform had arrived. Since she wasn't in ČB she asked my housemate to pick up the uniform for her. I therefore saw her new uniform before she did.

I asked her on Friday, in Czech, "Have you seen your new clothes?" Well that was what I thought I said. After a few blank looks Drahuš, one of the Czech OMers, explained that I had made a bit of a mistake. What I actually said was, "Have you seen your new underwear?" A bit embarrasing...
